According to an article in the Jerusalem Post on September 23, 2023” Excavations in Jordan offer compelling evidence for the authenticity of the biblical tale of the destruction of Sodom, but by an asteroid impact, says theologian Dr. John Bergsma.”

“An ancient city that met a fiery end in what could be described as an asteroid impact more powerful than an "atomic explosion" has been identified as the biblical city of Sodom, according to a biblical studies expert. Dr. John Bergsma, a prominent theologian, contends that excavations in Jordan provide substantial proof that one of the Bible's most dramatic and improbable narratives may indeed be factual.”

“Dr. John Bergsma is Vice President for Biblical Theology and Mission Effectiveness at the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology and Professor of Theology at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, where he has taught Scripture since 2004. He holds the B.A., M.Div. and Th.M. degrees from Calvin College and Seminary (now Calvin University) and a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from the University of Notre Dame (Indiana). “ https://stpaulcenter.com/dr-john-bergsma/

I find the terminology Dr. Bergsma uses interesting.  He uses the terms “biblical tale” and “dramatic and improbable narratives” to describe the historical account of Sodom and Gomorrah.

As a Professor of Theology at a Catholic university a casual observer would expect his writings to display a belief in the inerrant Word of God.

The question that comes to mind is does he teach the Bible in the theology classes as literature or as sacred scripture authored by the Spirit of God.

If it is taught as literature, what impact is this having on the belief of students being instructed by him?

These excavations in Jordan only support the historical accuracy of the Bible, and Torah.
