The Knights of Columbus had to file a lawsuit pursuant to freedom or religion to hold a mass at Poplar Grove National Cemetery in Petersburg, Virginia.  The Cemetery originally refused to let the mass be observed this year.  It later recanted and will let the mass proceed as has been tradition for past Memorial Days.

National cemeteries are final resting places for United States soldiers.  Many died fighting for freedom from tyranny. Many of these soldiers were Catholic or other Christian believers who have earned the right to have religious observances performed at their graves.  To deny this to believers who served protecting the United States and its freedom is an intolerable and cruel act, and deprivation of religious freedom.
