A headline from Fox News today stated:
“Stephen Colbert taunts Biden with Dr. Seuss-style rhyme: ‘Is he mentally fit? Can he serve a whole term?'” https://www.foxnews.com/media/stephen-colbert-mocks-biden-dr-seuss-parody-mentally-fit-serve-whole-term
Our society seems to have lost all comprehension of civility. What we see daily in the news media in its various forms and TV shows, drama and comedy, is the belittling of others. Very little if any respect is shown for those who hold opposing views. When this is done it doesn’t consider the impact it has on the one being belittled.
Comedians, Democrats, Republicans, and all people can express themselves in a civil tone without verbally abusing others. Many choose not to.
If I recall correctly, and I may not, this lack of civility began when Donald Trump first ran for office. He belittled others verbally and in writing. Many people did not like it and responded in a like manner.
Television shows depict the lack of appreciation and respect for others quite frequently. Young people see how characters are portrayed on TV and think that is acceptable. They in turn repeat what they see in their interactions with others.
Advertising companies, news media, and television shows make money from these depictions of human interaction. That seems to be all they care about. It is sad to see how human interaction has declined in the last eight years.
Humans for decades were able to communicate with respect toward others even when they disagreed with what was being said. All humans have a right to freely express their views with respect being shown by the speaker and the hearer.
Jesus gave us a new commandment that had two parts the second part states: “31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:31 King James Version
