“Canadian Jewish columnist calls for 'Exodus from Zionism'
Klein's piece redefines Zionism, portraying it not as liberation for Jews but as a justification for oppression, colonialism, and violence in the name of Jewish safety.” By JERUSALEM POST STAFF APRIL 24, 2024 21:52 Updated: APRIL 24, 2024 23:59 https://www.jpost.com/diaspora/article-798505
Klein’s recollection of history is, in my opinion, faulty.
Rebellion caused the dispersion of the Twelve Tribes throughout the nations. “16 Then the word of the Lord came to me saying, 17 “Son of man, when the house of Israel was living in their own land, they defiled it by their ways and their deeds; their way before Me was like the uncleanness of a woman in her impurity. 18 Therefore I poured out My wrath on them for the blood which they had shed on the land, because they had defiled it with their idols. 19 Also I scattered them among the nations and they were dispersed throughout the lands. According to their ways and their deeds I judged them. 20 When they came to the nations where they went, they profaned My holy name, because it was said of them, ‘These are the people of the Lord; yet they have come out of His land.’” Ezekiel 36:16-20 New American Standard Bible 1995
From 1941 to 1945 Hitler had over six million Jew’s annihilated. With this persecution why wouldn’t Jewish people have a right to be afraid.
God for His sake brought the Twelve Tribes back to Israel from the nations. “21 But I had [a]concern for My holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations where they went. 22 “Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for My holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you went. 23 I will vindicate the holiness of My great name which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord,” declares the Lord God, “when I prove Myself holy among you in their sight. 24 For I will take you from the nations, gather you from all the lands and bring you into your own land.” Ezekiel 36:21-24 New American Standard Bible 1995
“The United Kingdom announced its intention in 1947 to withdraw its forces from Palestine and endorsed United Nations Resolution 181, which partitioned the British mandate into a Jewish state and an Arab state. https://www.britannica.com/event/Arab-Israeli-wars
In May 1948 Israel became a nation. Clashes began shortly thereafter, with Arabs trying to eradicate the new state.
In 1956 President Nassar of Egypt nationalized the Suez Canal and prohibited Israel from using it. At the same time Egypt blockaded the port of Eilat. In October of that year Israel invaded the Sinai Peninsula capturing Gaza, Rafah, and Al-Arish. Britain and France intervened opening the Gulf of Aqaba to the Israeli’s. Israel withdrew its forces from occupied territories and UN forces replaced them.
Skirmishes between Syria and Israel intensified. In 1967 Syria bombed Israel villages. Israel shot down Syrian jets. Egypt’s Nassar concerned about his country’s safety signed a defense pact with Jordan. Again, he blockaded the port of Eilat. Israel responded by annihilating Egypt’s air force. They seized control of the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula, the Golan Heights, and the West Bank.
On October 6, 1973, Israel was attacked by Egypt and Syria during Yom Kippur.
In June 1982 Israel attacked Lebanon after tensions increased between Israel and the Palestinians. In July 2006 Hezbollah from Lebanon attacked Israel.
On October 7, 2023, an unprovoked attack was perpetrated in Israel by Hamas. Israel has responded by declaring war on Hamas which is headquartered in Gaza. Israel’s defensive counter attacks have been aimed at removing the terrorists that make up Hamas.
Israel is surrounded by enemies, Hamas on the southwest in Gaza, Hezbollah on the north in Lebanon, and Houthi located in Yemen which is southeast of Israel. These terrorist groups constantly seek the destruction of Israel. Some of these groups are supported by Iran, whose people chant death to Israel and death to the America.
In all but one instance cited above, June 1982, Israel was not the aggressor. They were attacked by their enemies. Israel in several conflicts returned land to the country that it conquered. This does not exhibit colonialization. Israel has not initiated oppression. It has responded to enemies that want it annihilated. War has been a response to acts of terror that jeopardize Israel’s safety. War does bring violence. It is an unpleasant consequence of war. Yet in all but one war Israel was not the aggressor.
