The New York Time article published May 23, 2024, states “Another Provocative Flag Was Flown at Another Alito Home A beach house owned by the Supreme Court justice Samuel Alito displayed an “Appeal to Heaven” flag, which, like the inverted U.S. flag that was flown outside his Virginia home, was carried by rioters on Jan. 6.”
John Locke said "And where the Body of the People, or any single Man, is deprived of their Right, or is under the Exercise of a power without right, and have no Appeal on Earth, there they have a liberty to appeal to Heaven, whenever they judge the Cause of sufficient moment." I agree with only part of this statement. He said “whenever they judge the Cause of sufficient moment.” Man always has an appeal to Heaven, to Yahweh the Creator and Sustainer of all things.
God desires relationship with His children. Romans 8:14-16 KJV “14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” He is willing to have two way communication with them. King David said “4 I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.” Psalm 3:4 King James Version
Galatians 4:4-7 King James Version states: “4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. 6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”
“To redeem them that were under the law” refers to the Ten Commandments. Many laws today are still based on these basic laws. The laws were given to Moses to be used by the Israelites. The laws described the will of God for His people in relationship to Himself and others.
“The Appeal to Heaven flag was designed by Colonel Joseph Reed, who served as the personal secretary to George Washington. Originally commissioned for use on six military cruiser ships, the flag was adopted on October 21, 1775. It became the official Massachusetts navy flag in 1776.
Washington's secretary chose a simple yet impactful design featuring a singular pine tree, a symbol of strength and resiliency within the New England states. The words “An Appeal to Heaven" stretch atop a white field, boldly proclaiming an appeal to God to save the colonists from the King's oppressive ruling.” https://www.americanflags.com/blog/post/an-appeal-to-heaven-flag-meaning
I take it that the New York Times no longer accepts the sovereignty of God and disparages those that do.
